Monument erected in 1864 to the memory of John Clare, poet, 1793-1864, who was
born and buried in the village. Victorian gothic monument in ashlar. Square
pedestal on ramped base with diagonally placed pier above with buttresses and
surmounted by circular shaft with conical top with a finial.
The pedestal has quatrefoil panels with quotations from Clare's poems.
