9/172 Barn adjoining to west of - farmhouse, Narr Lodge Farm - II

Barn with shippons and horse-engine house, early C19th. Watershot sandstone rubble with stone slate roof. North wall has one bay at left having windows with long-and-short jambs, now blocked or partly blocked. At the left is a doorway. To the right the main part of the barn has a continuous outshut which appears to be original, the openings also having long-and-short jambs. To the left of the wide entrance are two doorways and a window, the latter partly blocked. To the right are 2 windows, partly blocked. On the south side is a similar outshut. Interior. The main part of the barn has hardwood tie-beam trusses. The eastern part of the building contains the horse engine and has a high ceiling with sawn softwood main joists, and a cobbled floor. The engine is a vertical timber shaft of square section, with mortises for horizontal bars which are now missing. At ceiling level is a gear wheel with iron teeth.
