4/181 Workshop at Croskell's Farm approx. 2.0 metres west of - farmhouse

- II

Workshop, formerly farmhouse, late C17th, altered. Watershot sandstone rubble with corrugated sheet roof. 3-cell plan, unusual for the area. 2 storeys. North wall, formerly the rear, has 2 blocked chamfered window surrounds, the right-hand one with its mullion remaining. To their right is a window with plain reveals and a one-light chamfered window. To their left is a rebated and chamfered window at a higher level, now blocked but probably once lighting a stair. At the left is a blocked window with timber surround. On the 1st floor are 2 small windows with plain reveals. On the south side is a later lean-to addition, covering blocked mullioned windows, and a blocked doorway which once formed a lobby entry. Inside, the western room, now a shippon, has 2 chamfered axial main joists. The 2 eastern cells are now open to the roof. Their west wall has a recess for a firehood, now removed. At the east end, at 1st floor level, is a fireplace of C17th type, with chamfered splayed sides: this probably served a 1st floor parlour. The roof trusses have been renewed in softwood.
