Details

READ A671 SD 73 SE 7/41 Lodge to Read Hall 17-12-1968 GV II Lodge to Read Hall (q.v.), probably 1820s by George Webster of Kendal. Sandstone ashlar with hipped slate roof. A symmetrical composition of one storey, with one bay on each side of centrepiece. Windows have round heads, within round-headed recess. In front of a central gable is a tetrastyle Greek Doric portico, the columns having grooved neckings. The gable is flanked by pilasters with sinkings. Under the apex of the gable is a worn shield with the Fort family crest. The door has plain ashlar reveals and is flanked by narrow windows.
