House. Circa 1810 with late C20 alterations. Whitewashed plastered stone rubble with slate roofs, the roof of the front block hipped at ends; end stacks with brick shafts. Double depth 4 room plan with 2 heated rooms on either side of a central passage with a dog leg stair at the rear of the passage. A service stair is said to have given access from the service basement to the rear left room; this has been removed and the present stair to the basement is at the rear of the pasage. One of the basement rooms is heated and may have been the kitchen. The basement is at the lower ground level at the rear. 2 storeys. 3 bay symmetrical front with a moulded cornice and frieze, central Tuscan porch added in the late C20. 6-panel front door with panelled reveals and a panelled soffit, 12-pane sash windows throughout, the ground floor windows with Tudor style hoodmoulds with label stops and C20 copy glazing. 3 storeys at the rear because of lower ground level ; the 1 - window projecting left hand bay has a 3-light casement with glazing bars on the ground floor, a 12-pane sash on the first floor and a 16-pane bowed sash on the second floor, both early C19 : the recessed right hand bay is wider and has a very tall, narrow early C19 stair sash window to the left with a round head with intersecting glazing bars, an early C19 12-pane sash above to the right and below that a C20 window. Interior some internal features survive including joinery and a stair with stick balusters and a ramped handrail. In spite of the C20 alterations the house makes an important contribution to the centre of Chudleigh.
