Details
TL 74 SW ASHEN 1/1 Upper Farm Cottage II
House, early C17, extended in C20. Timber framed, plastered, roof thatched. 2 normal bays aligned NW-SE and short chimney bay to NW, with axial chimney stack. Single-storey lean-to extension to NW, connecting with porch to SW of chimney bay. Single-storey with attics. SW elevation, C20 door, 2 C20 casement windows and one small one, one C20 casement in swept dormer. Roof half-hipped at SE end. The interior has jowled posts, heavy studding, chamfered axial beams with lamb's tongue stops, exposed plain joists of horizontal section supported on pegged clamps. Large wood-burning hearth with aperture and door for bread over, but oven demolished. The original front door was to NE of the chimney stack, now blocked. RCHM 12.
