STOKENHAM BEESANDS SX84SW No. 28 (Sea Thatch) 8/185 II
House formerly a pair of cottages. Probably C18, extended in C19 and with C20 extensions at rear. Rendered stone rubble. Thatched roof with gabled ends. Large rendered stacks at either end, heightened in brick. Right hand end stack projects. Plan: Probably originally a small 2 room plan house with a central entrance, probably into a through passage, the left hand room heated from a gable end stack and the right hand room (now at the centre) unheated. In the C19 a cottage extension was built at the right hand end, having one front room with a gable end stack and a second unheated room in an integral outshut at the back. In the C20 the cottages were converted into one house, the partitions on the original part taken out to form one large room and a single storey outshut built at the back, linking the house to an outbuilding which was converted to extend the house accommodation. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window east from facing the sea. C20 2-light casements with glazing bars and tiled sills. Doorway to left of centre with C20 door and C20 gabled porch. C20 flat roof garage on left hand end and C20 single storey flat roof outshut at rear. The thatch of the main roof is carried down over the outshut at the left end of the rear. Interior: Exposed chamfered ceiling joists and left hand room has unchamfered timber fireplace lintel. Right hand room's fireplace lintel replaced. First floor rooms and roof space were not inspected.
