------------------------------------

HARMSTON CHURCH LANE - SK 96 SE 2/28 Bottom Lodge and Gates II

Gate Lodge. Late C19. Rough cut stone with ashlar dressings. Two-storey, slate ridge roof with single tall chimney in north gable. The building is dominated by a 2-storey, off-centre, circular turret with a conical slate roof. On ground floor this has 2 sash windows with ashlar sills and lintels, and above a chequered pattern of alternative blocks of rough cut and ashlar stone. Above this are 4 casement windows run together, each with upper leaded lights. This is topped with a wooden bracketted eaves cornice, which extends over 3 half-former windows, of the same type, to the north. Below is a tripartite window, segment-headed with rough cut voussoirs, again with casement windows like those above. Doorway to south has bracketed canopy over, and a simple door with 3 glazed panels. Elaborate gates and gatepiers with plain railings to south.
