WOODPLUMPTON
SCHOOL LANE
Barn c.15 metres south of Catforth Hall Farmhouse

II

Barn, probably C16 or earlier. Seven-bay cruck frame clad mostly in red
brick, with some remains of sandstone rubble in west wall; east wall and
north gable rendered; roof of corrugated sheet. The various present
external features are of less interest than the interior frame of 6 full
cruck trusses with hips at both ends; the trusses are mostly open, but
have collars and yokes, and either spurs or vacant housings for them,
and they carry one pair of trenched purlins with wind braces above and
below, some curved and other straight; although the present cladding is
gabled at both ends, the principal elements of the former roof hips survive,
a feature of unusual (if not unique) historical interest in this county.
