TL 64 SE HELIONS BUMPSTEAD WIGGENS GREEN 2/21 Thatch Cottage
GV II
House, early C17, altered in C20. Timber framed, plastered, roof thatched. 3 bays aligned approximately E-W, with axial chimney stack at W end of middle bay. C20 exensions to W and S, roofed with red tiles. Single storey with attics. One blocked doorway, one C20 door with tiled gabled hood, 4 C20 casement windows, 2 more in swept dormers. Some framing exposed internally. Jowled posts, curved tension bracing to corner posts inside studs. Plain- chamfered axial beams with exposed joists of horizontal section supported on clamps in all bays. Face-halved and bladed scarf in N wallplate. Original rebated floorboards. Partition removed between E and middle ground floor rooms. Large wood-burning hearth, not in use.
