Details
SX 98 SE LYMPSTONE STRAND (south side), Lympstone
5/63 No. 6 Bridge Cottages and - adjacent shop (Hodge The Baker) GV II
House, and shop with dwelling. Mid C19 or earlier. Cob or possibly brick, block plastered, with rubble masonry range to rear; gabled-end slate roofs. Single-depth plan with rear extensions. Axial stack, pebbledashed. 2 storeys. Front: irregular fenestration; slightly curved range. 3 hornless sash windows to first floor, 4 panes up, 8 below. Ground floor: Edwardian shop window, plate glass porch, the central entrance depressed, under moulded cornice bearing the name of the shop; to the right of this is a round-headed doorway to the dwelling, panelled reveals and soffit, half-glazed door with semi-circular fanlight. No. 1 Bridge Cottage also once a shop, the cornice remains, but the shop window which formerly stood beneath is now blocked, except for a 2-light C20 hornless sash window to left- hand elevation. Mostly C20 casement windows to rear extensions, but two 16-pane hornless sash windows survive.
