GV II
House. Mid C19. Rendered solid walls, probably of stone. Slated roofs; the main body of the house has a rendered chimneystack on each gable and another on rear gable of rear wing. Plan consists of a deep front block, possibly 2 rooms deep, with a narrow lower section, perhaps designed as a secondary entrance, on the east; at rear, on west side, a long narrow wing. 2 storeys, with garret in main block. The latter is 3 windows wide with a fourth window in the lower eastern section. The centre bay of the main block projects slightly and is carried up an extra storey above eaves level, where it has a gable with traceried bargeboards. In the ground and second storeys, the windows of this block have raised imitation stone surrounds of stucco and contain wooden mullioned-and-transomed casements, the lower sections of which have 2 panes each; the outer windows are of 3 lights, the centre window in second storey of 2 lights. Front door, in centre bay of ground storey, has 2 long panels with a narrow panel at the top, now glazed; fanlight over, with pointed head. Large openwork entrance-porch of timber, gabled with truss of open curved bracing and swept overhanging eaves carried on brackets. Third-storey window in gabled projection has pointed head and raised surround. At either side of it is a gabled dormer window with bargeboards and overhanging eaves; C20 glazing. The lower right-hand section of the building has a ground-storey window with a triangular head;this now has intersecting, diagonally-set glazing-bars, but may have been a doorway originally. In second storey is a similar window in a steep gable which breaks the eaves line; the glazing consists of a 2-light casement with 2 panes per light, each light having a triangular head with a diamond-shaped pane in the window head. Garden railings and gate (included in the listing) are original : cast-iron with lily-heads to the uprights. Interior not inspected.
