TQ 49 SE LAMBOURNE The Blue House 5/35 II
Lobby-entrance house, C17, extended inn C19. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 4 bays aligned approx. NE-SW with axial chimney stack in second bay from NE end, forming a lobby-entrance to the NW. 2 storey lean-to rear extension for stair to SE, either original or an early alteration, comparable with New England 'salt-box' houses. Weatherboarded extension to SW, single storey with attics, C19. 2 storeys. NW elevation, ground floor, tiled gabled porch, 2 C20 casement windows. First floor, 3 C20 casement windows. Roof hipped at NE end only. Grouped diagonal chimney shafts, reduced in height. Chamfered axial beams above ground floor rooms each side of chimney stack, with lamb's tongue stops to SW, unstopped to NE. hearth reduced for coal-burning grate, SW hearth altered, with inserted mantel beam (re-used timber) and brickwork renewed above. Butt-purlin roof, re-using some smoke- blackened medieval rafters. Attic has been lathed and plastered to rafters, possibly for storage use, later stripped. RCHM 10.
