Details
ST. OSYTH PARK CHASE TM 11 NW 6/169 Park Farmhouse GV II House. Probably C14/C15 with later alterations and early C20 rear wing. Timber framed and rough rendered, painted brick to ground floor. Red plain tiled roof, hipped with gablets. Left and right red brick chimney stacks. The ground floor brick facing suggests the house was originally jettied. 2 storeys. 4 small paned vertically sliding sashes to first floor, 3 ground floor tripartite small paned sliding sashes, keystones to arches. Off centre porch with flat head supported by Ionic columns. Fluted surround to door, ornate tracery to semi-circular light over. C20 decorations cover most of the timber frame, but some blocked mullion windows are visible, ceiling beams and huge bridging joists and a very large square section arched brace to tie beam, this probably supports a crown post. Part of roof visible at time of re-survey is of crown post type, with large unsooted timbers and collars to each rafter pair. A painted panel from a first floor room was removed to Colchester Museum, and other wall paintings are now carefully covered by board and paper. There are 2 arched doorways in this room. RCHM 14.
