SY 08 NW WOODBURY GLOBE HILL, Woodbury

2/112 Old Court House - - II

Substantial detached house. Built 1860-1 by William Phillips, builder of Woodbury, to house the Woodbury Sessions Magistrates Court, and policeman's house, with a cell. Red brick with yellow brick quoins and dressing, all on a chamfered limestone plinth, hipped slate roof with overhanging eaves. A rectangular block; double-depth plan. 2 storeys. Front: symmetrical 5 window range; 12-pane hornless sash windows to 1st floor; ground floor with round-headed 12-pane hornless sash windows; central round-headed doorway; panelled door with remi-circular fanlight. South front (left-hand side): irregular fenestration; 1st floor with 2 sash windows, one of 12-, the other of 8-panes, and a C20 metal casement window. Small ground floor window, but set quite high, under a segmental arch, probably lights former cell. North front: 1 12-pane hornless sash window to 1st floor; 1 sash window below, 3 panes up, 6 below. Rear: irregular fenestration, with 4 12-pane hornless sash windows to 1st floor; C20 windows below. Interior not inspected.
