OFFENHAM CHURCH STREET (south side) 11/135 Longthatch
The description shall be amended to read:
House. C14/15, remodelled in C17 and extended in early C19. Cruck-framed; timber framing mostly replaced by early C19 colourwashed brick and coursed lime- stone rubble; gabled thatch roof; C19 brick ridge and end stacks. Medieval hall house remodelled in C17, by the insertion of floor framing and chimney stack, into a 3-unit house with lobby entry to right of centre. One storey and attic; 4-window range. Pentice hood over late C20 door separated by timber lintel over an early C19 four-pane casement from timber lintel over doorway blocked in early C20 to right. Late C20 windows; C20 two-light casement to dormer. Interior: 2 full-cruck trusses, with apexes removed, to left; cruck to right has inserted C17 timber-framed partition to ground-floor; C17 stop-chamfered beams; C20 joists and chamfered bressumer over C17 open fireplace to centre; early C19 addition to right has chamfered bressumer over open fireplace with bread oven and softwood rafters to roof. Much of the medieval house has gone, but it was probably a hall house of 3 to 4 bays; converted into two cottages in early C19.

House. C17, extended C18 and early C19 with some mid-C20 alterations. Timber-frame with rendered infill, partly clad in painted coursed lias rubble. Gable end onto road with stack, also stack in ridge with lobby- entry to north. Gable of one storey with attic lit by a casement, ground floor blind. North front has a single casement cut into thatch and four C20 windows to ground floor. Entrance slightly to right of centre has a lean-to tiled canopy and a C20 ledged and boarded door. Framing exposed to east end, two square panels high. Included for group value.
