11/93 Barn and stables attached to east of Spring Grove 23.7.79 Farmhouse

GV II

Barn and stables. Late C18 and early C19 with some mid-C20 alterations. Bedrock and sandstone ashlar; brick additions, all with tile roofs. L-plan, stables late C18 extending to south-west, barn early C19 extending to north- east. Stables: two storeys, stone, but with dentilled brick cornice, the ground floor has been quarried out of the bedrock leaving the solid front wall; six windows: mostly 2-light casements under segmental heads of brick; ground floor: three stable entrances; barn: of brick, there is a wide opening at south-west end with a semi-elliptical head; to left the barn is of brick on sandstone plinth with dentilled brick cornice; the central segmentally headed cart entrance is flanked by four semi-circular headed recesses with hit-and-miss ventilators. Spring Grove Farmhosue is not included in this list.
