Details
KIMBOLTON CP STOCKTON SO 56 SW 7/27 The Old Workhouse 11.6.59 GV II House, divided into tenements. Early C16 core extended during late C17 or early C18, further late C18 and early C19 additions. Timber-framed earlier house with part wattle-and-daub and part painted brick infill, sandstone rubble plinth, later additions and stacks with brick shafts, Welsh slate roof. Two framed bays aligned east/west with cross-wing at east end, rubble additions to east and to rear, gable-end stacks. Two storeys. South front: upper storey of two earlier bays to left formerly jettied with moulded bressummer but now underbuilt; 12-pane casement window set in opening of former larger window with moulded slightly pro- jecting sill to left and 4-pane casement window to right, ground floor has 2-light casement window to left and two single-lights to right of ledged door with simple lean-to canopy. Cross-wing to right with skeletal frame revealed at time of re-survey; window opening with projecting sill to upper floor and traces of similar sill to ground floor, gable end of sandstone rubble addition to right with 2-light casement window in gable and ledged door to ground floor.
