GV II
House, now public house. C17, with late C19 and C20 alterations. Square panelled timber-framing with sandstone rubble plinth; part wattle-and-daub and part painted brick infill; tiled roofs. H-plan main building facing south to market place with additions to rear and to west; central entrance and rear gable-end stacks. Two storeys, attics and cellar. Upper storeys of cross-wings carried on jetties to south with shaped brackets and pendants; gable end of left-hand cross-wing with cusped struts in gable, small 4-pane casement window in attic, 2-light casement window to first floor. Similar leaded window to ground floor to right of ledged door. Central range has two 2-light casement windows, leaded windows to ground floor which flank central ledged door. Gable end of cross-wing to right with similar cusped struts in gable and 4-pane casement window. Two 2-light casement windows to first and ground floor, 4-light mullioned window to cellar to right of ledged cellar door. Interior retains chamfered ceiling beams with ogee stops and large open fireplace with bread oven in public bar with chamfered surround. (RCHM, Vol III, p 163, item 9).
