The Old Manor House GV II* House, once Manorial court. Late C17, altered early C18, bay windows rebuilt
after war damage mid C20. Brick in English bond with stone dressings to main ele-
vation; old plain tile roof. Main (front) range of 2 storeys with attic, 3 bays;
taller wing to rear right of 4 bays. West (entrance) elevation: stone quoins;
moulded brick string, at 1st floor level, broken by bay windows. Central C20
plank door in moulded architrave with flat timber hood on volute brackets and C20
side lights; over door, oeils-de-boeuf window in moulded architrave with key-
stones. Flanking 2-storey rectangular bay windows rebuilt mid C20 using concrete
instead of timber for windows; concrete quoins, mullions and parapets; windows are
of 5-lights returning by 1-light, with plain C20 casements. Gables have stone
copings and large end stacks. C20 2-light gabled dormers to outer bays. Right
return (Salisbury Street elevation): wing projects slightly and has 1st floor
band, coved eaves, and central projecting gabled chimney with plinth, lst-floor
and eaves bands, stone kneelers and coping, and ogee-arched recess to shaft. On
right of stack is C20 door below segmental brick arch. On left of stack is a
small low window, to left, with narrow window above, breaking band and having
leaded glazing an segmental brick arch; and next to stack is a blocked former
doorway, now with 4-pane sash, with a 2-pane sash over (formerly taller). Right
gable has moulded stone kneeler and raised verge with ashlar coping and base of
former finial. Late C20 solar panels to roof on right. Interior: various C18
features including panelling to entrance hall; panelling and fireplaces in flank-
ing rooms; and, in wing large kitchen and C18 stair, with turned balusters and
moulded hand rail, that leads up to large courtroom which has panelling and large

GV II* House once manorial court. Late C17, altered early C18, bays rebuilt after
war damage mid C20. Brick with stone dressings to main elevation, old plain
tile roof. Plan of 3 bay, 2 storey and attic. Front range with taller 2 bay
wing to rear of one end bay, along road, beyond projecting 2 1/2 storey gable
and then similar 1 bay wing. Front has central bay with C20 ledged door in
heavy moulded stone architrave and each side small flanking windows. Over
flat timber hood on cut brackets, 1st floor moulded brick string, interrupted
by bays. On 1st floor oculus window in moulded architrave with 4 key blocks.
Central bay is flanked by 2 storey rectangular bays, rebuilt mid C20, using
stone instead of timber for windows; stone mullions and quoins and coping to
parapet. Each has 5-lights to front and one at sides, with plain C20
casements. Gable walls with stone copings and large end stacks. Above end
bays 2-light gabled dormers. Front onto Salisbury Street has higher roofed
2 storey, 2 bay wing from gable of front range to projecting gable. 1st bay of
wing has small low level window and between floors 12-pane camber head sash.
Other bay and projecting gable have 1st floor raised band. 4-pane sash on
each floor. Gable blank with 2nd floor raised band. Gable wall has stone
kneelers and moulded coping with remains of finials. Large ridge stack,
rectangular with arched panel. Interior is of interest with C18 features.
Door leads into hall with C18 panelling. Rooms each side have panelling and
fireplace. Behind wing along road contains large kitchen and C18 staircase
with turned balusters and moulded hand rail that leads up to large court
room with panelling and large sash windows on garden side.
