MONK FRYSTON MAIN STREET SE 52 NW (north side) 4/47 Gates, Gatepiers, Railings and Wall at entrance to Monk Fryston Hall
GV II Gates, gatepiers, railings and wall. Mid-late C19. Rusticated sandstone wall with ashlar coping and piers, cast-iron gates and railings. 2 pairs of gatepiers, square on plan and approximately 4 metres high with walls to either side approximately 7 metres long and 1 metre high surmounted by railings approximately 1½ metres long and 1 metre high. Central carriage gates with pedestrian gates to either side. Piers surmounted by frieze, cornice and pedestals, those to centre surmounted by lanterns. Carriage gates are ramped down to centre and have 2 levels of bars with finials and scroll decoration to sides. Similar pedestrian gates (ramping upwards) at sides. Wall has curved coping. Railings have bars surmounted by finials and 2 levels of rails.
