1. THE HOLLOWAY 1054 The Coventry Hospital (Almshouses), South and Central blocks only SO 9063 2/47

Said to have been founded as a result of a race between Henry Coventry and Sir John Pakington of Westood. Built before 1686. Originally consisted of a north and south wing linked by a central block containing the Master's house. South wing simple 2 storey range of colour-washed brick with old tile. Central block 3 windows wide projects slightly and is crowned by a small pediment. North wing demolished and rebuilt 1934. In a large room at the back of the hospital is a portrait of Coventry winning horse. A plaque on the centre block reads "Founded by The Right Honourable Henry Coventry, son of the Right Honourable Thomas, Lord Coventry, Keeper of the Great Seal of England in the Reign of King Charles I".
