Details

OVERBURY CP CHURCH ROW (north side) SO 9437 - 9537 9/136 Nos 2, 4, 5, 7 & 8 HB II

Shown on OS map as Nos 2, 5 and 8. Row of seven houses, now five houses. Late C19 remodelling of an C18 or earlier structure, probably by Richard Norman Shaw for Robert Martin with further mid-C20 alterations. Coursed limestone rubble and plain tiled roof with four brick ridge stacks which have oversailing cap courses. Single storey and attic with dormers. Seven bays; windows are all leaded casements of two lights. Seven ground floor windows, seven gabled dormers have windows with moulded architraves. Four lean-to porches on shaped moulded brackets on stone corbels. The westernmost porch is larger, has an additional central bracket and two doorways beneath it. Doors are all simple ledged and battened type. Doorway between bays 5 and 6 are now blocked. There is a rear wing to the west end bay. The row of houses face No 1 Church Row (qv) and is situated adjacent to the gate piers, gates and quadrant walls to Overbury Court (qv). Included for group value.
