Details
ST MARY'S STREET II 1082 (North Side) No 44 (St Mary's Lodge) TL 5380 1/46 23.9.50.
II GV 2. A late C18 or early C19 yellow gault brick house similar in design to Nos 40 & 42. 3 storeys and cellars with a parapet and stone string course. 3 window range, double-hung sashes with glazing bars, in plain reveals. A central 4-panel door approached by steps has a semi-circular fanlight with fan glazing and is set in recessed brick reveals with quadrant fluted columns. Roof slate. The space between Nos 42 and 44 has been built up in the C20, slightly recessed, in a closely matching style.
Nos 20, 22, 22A, Nos 20 to 30 (even), Nos 34, 36, 36A, 38, Nos 40 to 60 (even) form a group with Nos 13 to 29 (odd) & 29A, Parson's Almhouses & Nos 1 to 5 (odd) Downham Road. Also Nos 20, 22, 22A, Nos 24 to 30 (even), 34, 36, 36A, 38, Nos 40 to 60 (even) Nos 13 to 29 (odd) & 29A, Parson's Almshouses form a group with No 20 Church Lane and the Parish Church of St Mary.
