Fir Cottage
II
Cottage. Late C17, altered in C19. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with
handmade red clay tiles. 3 bays facing SW, with central stack forming a
lobby-entrance. Single-storey lean-to extension at rear, roofed with corrugated
iron. One storey with attics. 2 late C19 splayed bays of casements, central
4-panel door, the upper panels glazed. Pargetted in panels with moulded
borders. Roof half-hipped at both ends, with original sprockets at half-hips.
Gabled porch on left end. Chamfered axial beam with lamb's tongue stops in
right bay. Chamfered transverse beam in left bay, unstopped. Hearths both
reduced for C20 grates. Face-halved and bladed scarf in rear wallplate.
Clasped purlin roof.
