BRADNINCH FORE STREET (west side), SS 90 NE Bradninch 11/20 No. 16 (Bradninch Green) - GV II House and shop premises. Cob and stone mix, plastered, the front range (part of a row) under a dry slate roof, the rear wing tinder a gabled-end pantiled roof. Probably a former 3-room, cross-passage plann house with a lower-end rear wing (to the right of site of passage). In the C19 the premises became a butcher's shop with slaughterhouse to the rear, some of the fittings of which survive. 2 storeys. Front: 4 window range bearing the date of the refurbishment of 1923 with wagon entrance to the right; hornless sash windows above, 4 panes per sash; 3 similar windows to ground floor, with larger shop window to left, with shop entrance. Entrance to house to the right, recessed, with panelled door. Moulded cornice. Axial stack, probably marking former passage; left-hand end stack (also serves no. 14). Axial stack to C17 wing, formerly an end stack, with slaughter house beyond, its roof ridge lower. Two 2-light casement windows to 1st floor, 3 below, one with its original heavy wooden lintel. Door and 2-light opening to slaughter house. Interior: one cross-beam, chamfered with scroll stops to wing; otherwise completely reroofed in C19, although slaughter house roof is early C19. Additional lower beams with hooks for hanging carcases; chopping block. Some tethering uprights survive in the rear yard.
