Details
SX 54 NE NEWTON AND NOSS COLLATON CROSS 9/126 29/3/60 Collaton II
Farmhouse. Circa C17 or earlier house rebuilt in 1844 (dated lintel) retaining some earlier features. Stone rubble with granite quoins. Slate hung south west end. Slate roof with gabled ends. Two storeys and cellar. Three bays. C20 top-opening- light windows in C19 openings with granite lintels. Central doorway with C20 hood. Stone chimney stacks at gable ends. Rear wall has central chamfered granite four-centred arched doorway with pyramid stopped jambs, in chamfered recess with nail-studded door, and three-light granite hollow-chamfered mullion ground floor window. Interior. Large moulded granite chimneypiece with straight head. Kitchen fireplace has probably reused granite. Late C17 or early C18 staircase with moulded string, twisted balusters, moulded handrail and square newels.
