Details
TL 50 SE ONGAR SHELLEY (Off Ongar 5/150 Road). Boarded Barns Farmhouse
GV II
House. Cl7 or earlier with later additions and alterations. Timber framed and plastered with red plain tiled roofs. Two central gabled crosswings with extensions to left and right. The right front extension is single storey with a matching window. The main builds are 2 storey and attics. 3 window range of C20 small paned casements. Central enclosed red tiled porch with bargeboards and batten decoration and boarded door. 3 red brick chimney stacks. A lintel beside original brick fireplace is dated 1613. Some exposed internal timber framing with stop chamfered bridging and floor joists and mullion windows. A Bill for various groceries dated 1634 was found in the roof during restoration and is framed in the Hall. There is also Cl8 panelling. RCHM 5.
