CHIVELSTONE SOUTH ALLINGTON SX 73 NE 9/20 Manor Farmhouse 26.1.67 GV II*

Farmhouse. Early C18 with C20 addition. Coursed and squared slate stone rubble walls, the left-hand end wall is slate hung. Hipped slate roof. 2 brick axial stacks, rendered brick stack at left-hand end. Plan: apparently 4 rooms to main range with central entrance and stairhall, with service wing behind right-hand end. Later C20 addition at left-hand end. Exterior: 2 storeys with attic. Symmetrical 5-window front of early C19 12 pane sashes. Ground floor windows have stone flat voussoir arches above them, brick arches over 1st floor windows. Flat string between storeys. Original panelled double doors at the centre with a flat hood on shaped wooden brackets above. Moulded wooden eaves cornice. Dormer window in roof at left-hand end. Right-hand end wall has C18 2-panel door with flat hood above. Interior: inaccessible at time of survey but known to have fairly complete C18 joinery. This house seems to have undergone little C20 alteration and retains a very traditional appearance.
