Details
UPOTTERY UPOTTERY ST 20 NW 7/151 Gateway and boundary walls - adjoining south of Manor Lodge GV II Gateway and boundary wall formerly belonging to Upottery Manor (now demolished). Circa 1850. The gate posts are flint rubble with limestone ashlar dressings; they are square in section with small chamfers on the corners and have pyramid caps. They contain original ornate wrought iron double gates enriched with scrollwork and with an ornamental crest which rises towards the centre. The gateway is set back from the road. From the left (south) side a low flint rubble quadrant wall curves forward then runs southward alongside the road forming the boundary between the road and the Manor grounds. This gateway and boundary wall form part of a group of attractive listed buildings which make up the village of Upottery; most of them are C19 and were built by Lord Sidmouth.
