7/89 Group of 4 iron Troyte grave - markers about 9 metres south west of the porch of the Church of All Saints

GV II

Group of 4 iron grave markers. Late C19. 4 identical floriated crosses, each cross with one intial on the stem. 2 of them commemorate A.H.D. Troyte and Fanny, his wife; the others probably 2 of their children. A.H.D. Troyte, patron of the living, funded and was personally active in the restoration of the church 1854-8. Troyte died in 1857. An article in T.E.D.A.S. refers to the reticence of the graves of Troyte and his wife; "two simple turf graves, an iron cross at the head of each " and a brass wall plaque in the church mentions the memorials as "Two iron crosses near the lich-gate". It seems likely that they have been moved to their present position.
