Details

TF 82 SW ROUGHAM 1/42 Rougham Hall 4.12.51 GV II House. Original wing believed to be a service wing of Hon.Roger North's house (now demolished) of circa 1690. Additions of 1878, 1906 and later not of special interest except for re-positioned staircase and panelling. Flint and brick to original wing. Pantiled roof. 2 storeys with attic. Scattered fenestration including one C18 or C19 5-light casement window with transom beneath a segmental arch, one possibly late C17 2-light mullion and transom window with some leaded lights, one sash window with glazing bars and several 2-light casements. One large off-centre axial stack. Interior with very fine staircase of c.1700 brought from Finborough Hall (Suffolk) in 1878. Open string with turned balusters with carved leaf decoration, swept handrail and unusual carved tread ends. Some re- set oak panelling in hall and dining room. In hall a fluted frieze and carved arms with motto "Durum Pati" dated 1569. Included primarily for staircase.
