Pair of cottages may originally have been one house. Early to mid C17. Rendered rubble walls possibly incorporating some cob. Thatch roof, hipped to left end and gabled to right. 2 plastered rubble stacks, one axial and one at gable end. Plan: originally may have been one house of 3-room-and-through-passage plan, lower end to the right, which with the passage, is now No.2. Hall stack backing on to the passage and unheated inner room. C18 or C19 outshut added at the front of the lower room. C19 or early C20 leanto built behind inner room. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 1-window front, 3 on the ground floor which are C20 2-light casements. The lst floor window is a half dormer with an eyebrow in the thatch above and a probably C18 square section 2-light wooden mullion window frame with C19 casements inserted. Outshut to right is under a catslide roof part of which also extends to its left as a pentice over a wide C18 plank door to No.2. No. 1 to the left has a door in a C20 glazed porch at the left-hand end. Interior: No.1 has a waney chamfered unstopped cross beam to its main room. Large open fireplace with massive chamfered slate lintel and dressed stone jambs. Oven in right-hand side. Winder wooden stairs behind partition between 2 rooms. Roof timbers renewed in late C19 or early C20.
