Details
SURLINGHAM THE STREET TG 30 NW (west side) 3/88 Barn 25m east of The Croft (formerly listed as Barn 11/12/79 immediately ENE of The Croft) G.V. II 3-stead threshing barn. Dated 1664 by re-set stone plaque but this is suspicious : early C18 more likely. Flint and brick, whitewashed to west side. Thatched roof. West side with central full height timber doors flanked to right and left by 2 brick slit lights each side. Later building obscures those to left. Gabled roof. South gable of flint with brick dressings : 3 slit brick lights and some diamond brick patterning. Stepped gable head on brick kneelers. Opposing east double doors. East and north walls rebuilt in brick early C20. Lean-to outbuilding abuts south gable wall. Roof structure of tie beams on arched braces and wall posts. Principals and 2 tiers butt purlins. Some straight windbracing. 2 mezzanine beams and floors inserted late C20.
