Cottage, perhaps early parsonage, C16 and C17 with mid C19 alterations.
Timber framed, wattle and daub, brick, rendered and colourwashed; thatched
roof. In 3 builds. L shaped, former hall-house, 1½ storeys, axial stack
to each arm rebuilt mid C19. C16 forward wing to right: gable end to south
facing church, ground floor in brick with C19 canted bay window with
casements and tile roof, first floor timber framed with curved braces and
small 4-light opening; attic with small blocked opening with wood mullion.
Fretwork bargeboards with drop finials at eaves, c.1846. Right return
to east in two parts: timber framed to first floor; bay to left with bay
window having tiled roof, small window to chimney bay to right; bay to right
with jettied first floor and hipped roof; central doorway with casements
having pintle hinges either side. Left return to west mainly rendered but
with some brick in English bond; C19 round stack shaft in red brick with
decorative spirals and cusped cap; central facade with forward plinth and
blocked doorway to chimney bay; first floor with small 3-light casements
with hood mould under central gable with fretwork bargeboards. Lobby
entrance C17 range to west: gabled C19 wooden porch to chimney bay having
fretwork sides and arch, boarded C19 door renewed: small gable to chimney
bay as to left return of forward wing having blank single light under hood
mould; bay to right with 4 light casement opening to each floor. Left gable
end with fretwork bargeboards sweeping low to left: ground floor with canted
bay window as to south gable, first floor with double casement under hood
mould. Interior: forward wing to south with large enclosed inserted stack
(present C19 fireplace forward c.l metre). Timberframed partition c.75cm
behind stack. Inserted floor; low tie beam. Roof to rear of east wing:
rafters resting on purlins, west wing with some double braces to collars.
West wing with large fireplace rebuilt but with bressumer having rough
¼ moulding; lambs tongue stops to bridging beam.
