Knapton Hall

(Formerly listed as Knapton Hall Hotel)

House, hotel at time of listing, c.1800. Rendered and whitewashed brick with roof of black glazed pantiles. Two storeys in three bays divided by four giant pilasters with moulded capitals below cornice and parapet. Square pinnacles continue above pilasters to terminate in ball finials. Side bays in form of two storey bow windows with sashes and glazing bars, each of the three sashes separated by pilaster strips. Central half glazed door below fanlight in rectangular opening. Sash window above with glazing bars. At first floor a glazed wrought iron verandah standing upon circular verticals and curving to imitiate undulations of facade. Roof of this block obscured by parapet. Two symmetrically placed stacks. Mid C19 rendered brick extension to rear. Hipped roof of black glazed pantiles. All fenestration now C20.

Interior with wreathed and ramped handrail to staircase supported on fluted balusters (2 to each tread). Scrolled tread ends. Balustrade returns to form gallery over doorway.
