Details
ALDHAM GREEN LANE 1. 5214 (Junction with New Road) Church of St Margaret TL 92 NM 7/52 and St Catherine 7.4.65 II*
2. Church rebuilt on a new site in AD 1854 by Hakewill. In the early English style and faced with coursed pebbles dressed with stone. Nave and south aisles with chancel, timber south porch and west tower with tall parapet spire of stone. Tower parapet with string of ball-flower and angle buttresses. South windows lancets. Chancel windows perpendicular. Roofs gabled and peg-tiled and all of 7 cants - re-used from the former medieval church. South porch Decorated, a fine specimen from the earlier church; as is the C14 door-leaf reset in the south wall of the tower, with ogee head and sanctuary handle of wrought iron. (RCHM 1).
