Details
ST 01 SE UFFCULME CHAPEL STREET, (south side) Uffculme 4/160 Baptist Chapel - II Baptist chapel. Build 1809, enlarged 1884 (Kelly's Directory). Random rubble limestone with some volcanic trap, with brick window surrounds. Gable end slate roof with crested ridge tiles, apex finial, and 2 small ridge ventilators. Simple rectangular plan with gallery at the front end; the 1884 extension of rooms at the rear of the chapel is clearly distinguished from the older work by vertical masonry joints. Exterior Front: rendered, pilaster quoins with moulded capitals, eaves fascia and plat-band form a sort of pediment. 2 tiers of 2 round-headed 2-light windows, those to the ground floor the taller, and flanking a recessed door under a quatrefoil set in a roundel. 2 window bays to either side of chapel, all of 2-lights and round- headed; similar, but smaller, 2-light windows to first floor of extension, with door to north. Rear elevation, with 2 pointed lancets with Y-tracery. Late C19 patterned glass.
