HIGH STREET 1. 1092 (South-east Side) Nos 41 and 42 SX 9292 NW 3/198 29.1.53. II* GV 2. Timber-framed 4 storey front with 2 gables dated 1564. Each storey oversails with moulded beam at 1st floor level. One stone side wall corbelled forward. 1st floor has two 6-light square oriels with moulded timbers, one with carved brackets. 4-light and 2-light oriels to 2nd and 3rd floors respectively. Front has been roughcast and some timbers applied. Modern shopfront. Slate roof. Interior: carved oak board dated 1564. Parts of the house may be more ancient and there are remains of the Close wall in the basement. Some other original features, staircases, chamfered beams etc. Nos 39 to 47 (consec) form a group.
