CHERITON FITZPAINE CHERITON FITZPAINE SS 80 NE 7/31 Higher Saunders - GV II

House, former farmhouse. Early C17, remodelled and extended in late C17-early C18. Plastered cob on rubble footings; rubble or cob stacks topped with C20 brick; thatched roof. L-shaped building. 2-room plan to main block facing south away from the road and with a single room rear block behind left (west) end. End stacks to main block and gable end stack to rear block. 2 storeys. Irregular 3-window front of mid C20 casements, some timber and some iron-framed, with low thatch eyebrows over first floor windows. C20 door left of centre with C20 hipped thatch-roofed porch on plain posts. Stacks projecting from end walls, that to left is disused and without a chimney shaft. Interior: Rear and right front rooms have chamfered and step-stopped beams, both very worn. Left front room has C20 replacement beam. Left front has late C17-early C18 stone fireplace with curving pentan and plain chamfered lintel and right front has contemporary fireplace, its oak lintel has chamfer with runout stops and it includes a side oven with late C19 cast iron door. Roof of A-frame trusses with pegged lap- jointed collars.
