Details

KNOWSTONE WADHAM HILL SS 82 SW 3/33 Little Wadham - - II Farmhouse. Probably C17 and altered at left end probably in C18. Painted rendered stone rubble and cob. Thatch roof with gable ends. Brick shaft to stone rubble stack at left gable end, and large rendered stone rubble stack with bread oven projection at right end. Plan: consists of a larger heated room at each end, both of which have direct front entrances, and an unheated middle room. Staircase runs up rear wall in right-hand corner of right-hand room. The C17 plan has clearly been altered in the C18 and C20 and it is possible that at one time the farmhouse was in 2 occupations. Exterior: 2 storeys. 5-window range. Irregular C19 fenestration principally intact from left end, 3-light casement 3 panes per light, two 2-light casements, 2 panes per light, 4-paned sash, and 2-light casement 4 panes per light. Ground floor has 2-light casement 3 panes per light to left of porch with corrugated iron lean-to roof. Small 3-paned single light window and 2-light casement 3 panes per light to left of C20 door and porch with hipped thatch roof. 2-light casement 6 panes per light to right. Lean-to at left end and single storey outshut to rear right end with slate roofs. Interior: not inspected.
