Details
1. GREAT BADDOW HIGH STREET 5213 (West Side) GREAT BADDOW Nos 66 and 68 TL 7204 32/131 10.4.67.
1I* GV 2. Originally a C15-C16 timber-framed and plastered house, much altered in the C17 and C18 and some C19 alterations. The lst storey is jettied on the whole front. No 66 has a curved bracket. 2 storeys. 5 window range, No 66 has C20 casements and No 68 has C18 or early C19 fenestration, double-hung sashes with glazing bars. The ground storey has 3 good C18 or early C19 bow shop windows with glazing bars. There are 2 doorways between the windows one has a 6-panel door and cornice. Roof tiled, hipped, with a central C16-C17 chimney stack with 4 grouped octagonal shafts. The south part of the front (No 68) has a paired modillion eaves cornice and the north side of No 66 has a C18 moulded wood cornice. The interior has richly moulded ceiling beams with moulded brackets and pendants. there are original doors and windows. The roof has original timbers and a good crown post with hollow chamfers. On the lst storey there is a fine C17 painted ceiling of flowers. (RCHM 6).
Nos 66 to 78 (even) with 57 to 61 (odd) and Munnions, Banstreets, Bell Street, the Church of St Mary and the Vicarage Church Street form a group.
