Details

FRITHELSTOCK SS41NE 11/103 The Old School House II School and schoolhouse, now house. c.1830. Colourwashed rough-cast over cob and stone; gabled thatch roof; rendered brick end stacks to schoolhouse. Plan: 2-unit schoolhouse to left of schoolroom which forms cross wing on right. Schoolhouse of 2 storeys; symmetrical 3-window range. C20 door and porch to centre; C19 plank inner door, set in moulded wood architrave. Flat rendered arches over early C19 three-light wood-mullioned casements with original fittings. Half dormers above have early C19 Gothic-style 2-light casements, with leaded-lights set in spandrels of Y-tracery glazing bars. To rear is C20 door and similar Gothick-style first-floor window. One storey schoolroom to right: mid C19 four-panelled door to its left side wall, adjoins the front gabled end of the schoolhouse, and has gablet over early C19 three-light wood-mullioned and transomed window with original fittings and leaded-lights. Interior: early C19 plank doors and A-frame roof with pegged collars.
