House. c1880 rebuilding by William Butterfield of a 1789 house by Sir John Soane. Brick with freestone dressings and slate roofs. Entrance front of 2 storeys with 3 storey entrance bay tower. Residual classical round-arched style with segmental headed windows in 2 bays on either side of the entrance bay, with a 3 window north extension. Windows paired on first floor. Stone dressings to all openings. Plate glass sashes. Central door, third storey of tower with pilasters and one round arched window to each face perhaps c1900. Pierced attic at balustrades. 3 bay south return with 3 ground floor windows with double rubbed brick arches survive from Soane's house. C18 2 storey service wing with sashes and glazing bars to both floors slightly recessed, forming one arm of U plan courtyard at rear. Butterfield wing to north set back from main block. A minor apsed Soane room survives on first floor.
