13/36 The Corner House
II
Small detached house. Mid-late C18; C19 additions. Random and coursed rubble limestone; ashlar chimneys; stone slate roof. Two- storey with attic; 2-storey additions to east and west sides. Front: gable end of earliest part projects forward with single- window fenestration, timber casements with timber lintels and leaded iron opening casements. Set back to right is addition with single 12-pane sash per floor. Doorway in angle with flat stone porch hood and single bracket. West side: addition has brick upper floor, rendered on front side, with open ground floor supported on timber beams and corner post; outhouse set back beneath. Main 6-panel door to house entered from this side. Rear: house built against steep pathway. One ground floor room is beneath path, probably built into vaulted wool drying recess in earlier terrace walls. A further recess adjoining to east of house has later front wall with reset oval window. Important visual effect on curve of street.
