12/72 Former Saxon church to west of Priory House and approximately 10m south west of Church of 28.6.60 St. Swithun (formerly listed as Barn)
GV II*
Part of Scheduled Ancient Monument No 360. Formerly church, now barn. Cll; C14 rebuilding; C17 alteration to barn. Random rubble limestone including some herringbone masonry; asbestos roof. Single-storey with 6-bay roof; barn porch on north side. Lean-to additions to ends. North side: boundary wall to left links with Church of St Swithun (q.v.). Central gabled porch with low doorway having timber lintel and plank doors. Two-light C14 window to left with Decorated tracery, now bricked up. Part of round-arched former doorway to right with one impost block; small single-light to left in angle with porch is C17. East end: gabled with blocked C14 east window having reticulated tracery, partially obscured by lean-to with row of pigeon holes. South side: central barn doorway with C20 sliding doors; extensive area of herringbone work to left; small plank door to right with timber lintel. Very small high level window with timber quatrefoil frame. Interior: altered roof, probably C17, of 6 bays with collar and tie beam trusses; various inserted struts. East window is more complete internally. Excavations have revealed that the east end was originally apsed, the church having been lengthened in C14. Forms part of Priory Farm grouping with church.
