17/104 Walls with railings, gates, gatepiers and stile to west and south west of Grey Gables
GV II
Walls with railings, gates, gatepiers and stile. 1885 by William Clissold for Edward Paul. Ashlar limestone; wrought iron. Gateway to present Manor Drive has piers with vermiculated rusticated bands, panelling below moulded modillion cornice with pyramidal cap, and moulded plinth. Elaborate iron gates with scrolled top rising at centre. Curved flanking walls with moulded coping and plinth terminated by simpler ashlar piers with dentil cornice; walls topped by iron railings with elaborated spikes. Wall with iron railings continues to north, terminated by pier. Adjacent to south pier is iron stile with simple stone post beyond. Italianate style matches that of Grey Gables (q.v.) with which railings and gateway are grouped.
