23/156 Barton End Farmhouse
II
Detached farmhouse. Mid C17; early and mid C19 additions. Random rubble limestone, mostly roughcast rendered, ashlar west front; ashlar chimneys; stone and asbestos slate roof. Two-storey with attic; L-plan with additional north and west-facing ranges. West front: 3-window fenestration, all 16-pane sashes in plain openings. Upper floor sill band. Moulded cornice with blocking course. Central doorway with 6-panel door and Tuscan pedimented porch; delicate leaf carving in tympanum. Plain gable end chimneys. South side: earliest part set back to right with full gable, attic retaining 2-light chamfered mullioned casement; timber casement fenestration below. Cl9 addition built in angle with west range. Two ridge-mounted chimneys, one with moulded cap. Parapet gable to east end. North side: mid-late C19 addition faces north with 4-window fenestration, all 2-light chamfered mullioned casements. Central doorway with glazed door and gabled porch hood on shaped stone brackets. Interior not inspected.
