Group of five memorials c 6m west of west wall at Church of St Giles

Group lies in straight north-south alignment, with one tomb set c2 m closer to wall,
opposite buttress.
(i) Chest tomb. C18. Limestone. Heavy moulded top, remains of inscription north
side, but no name or date decipherable. At time of survey sunk half-depth into
ground. The northernmost item in the group.
(ii) Tall chest tomb. Early C18. Limestone. Baroque design, roll and cyma top,
moulded base, enriched ¼ balusters, cartouches east and west, rectangular panels in
bolection mould and decorative floral supporters. Inscriptions not legible.
(iii) Chest tomb. Early C18. Limestone. Cyma top, lyre and panels, rectangular
inscription panels in bolection mouldings; north panel broken at time of survey,
south panel with good baroque cartouche. At time of survey sunk half-depth into
ground. Inscriptions not legible.
(iv) Chest tomb. C18. LImestone. Cyma top, simple end and side panels. At time of
survey sinking into ground and leaning. Inscriptions not legible. Located c4 m due
west of buttress on church west wall.
(v) Altar tomb. Early C19. Sandstone. Square pedestal, stepped top with large urn,
high plinth, reeded corner pilasters, raised inscription panels. WILLIAM ALBERT
PRICE, dates not legible. Formerly in railed enclosure. Located at south end of the
group, and due west from south-west corner of church.
