Pair of cottages (formerly 3). Mainly mid-C19 but incorporating part of
an early C18 structure. Brick walls, slate roofs brick stacks - 2 at
ends and 2 intermediate. 2 storeys. East gable wall incorporates part of
an early C18 brick garden wall. Part of the front (north) wall also appears
of this date. Panelled door with sash window with glazing bars as side light.
Second blocked doorway. Ground floor has 3 sash windows with glazing bars.
First floor has 5 similar windows. C18 garden wall extends south of the
cottages as a free-standing wall. This has a pair of rusticated brick gatepiers
with oversailing caps. These each flanked by a section of wall with blank
segmental-arched recess. On each side of these a straight length of wall with
dentil cornice, terminating in a rusticated pier (the right-hand section now
part of cottage gable wall). A National Trust property. RCHM Monument 3.
